Today’s foodie visit, Indulgence Southern Bistro; Downtown Jacksonville’s most slept on black owned eatery. This is a secret that needs to be told. Thankfully you found this article, because i’m spilling the beans.
Indulgence Southern Bistro offers southern home cooked style meals and deliciously crafted cocktails. When you think of goodt food, this is going to be it. Truthfully, I had this spot on my list of local eats to visit for a while. Well, baddies I made it around and I want to give a full review of what I ate, the location overall, and if you should give this spot a try. Keep reading to find out more.
What To Expect At Indulgence Southern Bistro
Indulgence Southern Bistro is a quaint black owned spot tucked away at 315 Forsyth Street close to the corner of Julia St offering decadent soul food.
The cuisine specialty is southern style food specializing in shrimp and grits, fried chicken, seafood, waffles, brunch, and so much more. There is a spirit and wine bar in the house, so if cute cocktails is what you’re seeking with your meal… here you go.
From the grassy walls, plush wall bench, black art, and illuminated signs on the walls with the slogan “Indulge and Feed Your Soul”, I knew I was in for a treat.
Experiencing Indulgence Southern Bistro
I popped in on a Thursday around 12:00n, they open at 7:00am, I totally avoided any rush. As I was concluding my visit people were coming! This spot is small and dead slap in the middle of Downtown. If considering eating here on the weekends, there could be a wait.
I was quickly seated and the waitress/ bartender immediately took my order.
What I Ordered
Online the drinks look lush so I decided to try a strawberry mimosa. It came out green and packed a PUNCH. lol. WHEW. One thing you can count on is getting tipsy here. I was feeling it with one drink. Chile.
For my food I will admit I wasn’t super hungry. So I wanted a small bite. However, I went with the waiter’s suggestion of salmon bites and sauteed spinach. My food came out fast hot and visually pleasing.
Salmon Bites
Nice proportion and fresh. These indulgent pieces of heaven melted in my mouth. The bites were seasoned well and fried to perfection. They come with a sweet chili sauce. Delicious
Sauteed Spinach
Fresh spinach, not the frozen stuff. It was also seasoned perfectly and cooked. The only problem I had was I wanted more. 🙂

If you’re looking for a taste of the south in the heart of downtown Jax, this is the spot for you. Be sure to follow Indulgence Southern Bistro on facebook whereas they are always hosting grown up events, weekend brunch, and gatherings.
I will certainly be adding this spot to my list of places to frequent in Jax. I will revisit for brunch one weekend and give you all an update.
