Earlier this year it was announced by Jacksonville’s own Bold City Best list that Carolina Jax had the best burgers in the city for 2022.
I’ve heard about more than a few times and decided it was time to really see what the hype was about. I recently stopped in, and you know I’m here to give all the deets. Are the burgers really that good? Keep reading to find out.
Inside Carolina Jax
Carolina Jax is a food truck turned restaurant, located at 2548 Oak St, Jacksonville, FL 32204. They serve fresh smash burgers, loaded fries, hot dogs, and shakes. This is a fast casual dining experience; you place your order at the counter, wait for name to be called, and go. You can take your bounty to go, or cop a seat at any available table.
It’s one of those spots on the corner, you have to know its there to know. And baby, people know about it. I popped in on a mid Saturday afternoon and it was packed with people from door to counter enjoying their meals.
Inside the decor is clean and simply cute. With tons of photo ops mainly the bright red ‘Hamburger’ sign on the longest wall. They proudly display their years of being deemed as the best burgers have to offer. The question is, are the burgers really ‘best in Jax’ worthy?
What I Tried
The menu at Carolina Jax has some of everything. With classic choices such as the Patty Melt Two slices American cheese, classic sauce, grilled onion on Texas toast, and more complex items such as the OBX Roasted poblano mayo, Cajun ranch, applewood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, key lime guac on toasted brioche bun. They offer something to match every flavor pallet.
North Florida Philly
Two slices white American cheese, mayo, grilled onion, baby bellas, pepper blend on toasted white bun. Not only was this one of the freshest burgers i’ve had in a while, the flavors were incredible, the bread was soft, and the cheese to meat ratio was perfect. This burger was sincerely scrumptious, my mouth is watering thinking about it right now. lol. (10/10)
Natural Cut Fries
I will be honest, I was a little overwhelmed and didn’t want to overdo it my first visit. I went with a basket of the natural cut fries seasoned with house season. They were great and complimented the burger wonderful (8.5/10)
Datil Duuuval
Strawberry shake mixed with Minorcan Mayhem Datil sauce. Basically a strawberry kick with a little kick. If you’re a spicy margarita type, you will love this. The milkshake was creamy and just plain ole good. (9.5 /10)
A few things I want to honorably mention are the hot dogs. My daughter did the plain Jane hot dog, all beef and good. I’m definitely wanting to explore the dogs and much more of the menu in upcoming visits.
Does Carolina Jax Have The Best Burgers In Jax?
Overall I was sincerely pleased with my experience at Carolina Jax. I can easily see how and why they were voted the best. To say it in plain english… that was a damn good burger. I would highly recommend you giving this spot a try. Be sure to visit them online for hours and the menu. Should you go, let me know what you think!
