About the Rugby Polo
Let’s talk about the star of today’s lineup, the rugby polo I’ll be styling throughout this post. I actually found mine in the men’s section at Ralph Lauren, and listen… I keep telling y’all, don’t sleep on the men’s section. That’s where some of the best, most timeless basics are hiding.
I went with a classic fit and grabbed a size medium, but hindsight is twenty-twenty—I probably could’ve sized up for a slightly oversized look. Still, the medium works perfectly for the kind of clean, pulled-together outfits I’m creating here. I also decided to invest in the Ralph Lauren version because I wanted that real rugby feel—quality fabric, weight, and craftsmanship that can hold up for years. This isn’t just a shirt I’ll wear one season and forget about; it’s a piece I’ll be styling in new ways for a long time.
If you’ve been following along for a while, you might remember I mentioned owning a rugby shirt in my post 10 Fall Basics That Will Have You Looking Expensive (for Less). This is one of those pieces that proves exactly why—it’s versatile, timeless, and easy to make your own.
1. Camo Pants
This combo gives effortless cool without even trying. I threw on my rugby polo with an old pair of camo cargo pants—literally the easiest way to play around with mixing prints. The combo just works. The rugby gives that clean, put-together vibe, while the camo keeps it chill and a little street. I grabbed my Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 bag, added some fun charms for personality, and finished it off with my New Balance 530s. It’s that perfect balance of casual and cute—like you didn’t overthink it, but still look like you know exactly what you’re doing.

Bottoms (similar) || Sneakers || Bag
What makes this look work is the contrast—the classic rugby polo brings a clean, put-together energy, while the camo pants add edge and attitude. It’s the kind of combo that looks like you didn’t try too hard but still hits every time.
2. Leather Shorts
Look two is giving cozy-meets-edgy in the best way. I took the rugby polo and did a loose tuck into a pair of leather shorts—nothing too neat, just enough to give the outfit some shape without trying too hard. I threw on my Zara fold-over boots because they add that little bit of drama, and carried the same fluffy Amazon clutch to keep the look fun and textured.

Shorts (similar) || Boots (similar) || Bag
This one works because it’s the perfect mix of soft and structured. The rugby polo keeps things classic, the leather shorts add attitude, and the boots pull it all together. It’s an easy fall look that feels cool, effortless, and very “I know fashion, but I’m still comfortable.”
3. Sweatpants
Can we say “running errands but still cute” uniform we all need. I grabbed a baggy pair of barrel-leg sweats and did a loose little tuck with the rugby polo so it didn’t look too slouchy. Same New Balance 530s because they just go with everything. For layering, I added a light khaki trench coat and topped it off with a navy blue baseball cap. I kept the Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 with the charms because she adds personality no matter the outfit.

Sweats (similar) || Jacket (similar) || Sneakers || Bag || Hat
This look works because it’s comfortable without giving up style. The rugby polo brings structure up top, the sweats keep it relaxed, and the trench pulls everything together so it still feels intentional. It’s easy, cozy, and looks like you put in effort even when you really didn’t.
4. Sequin Skirt
Look four is for my girls who love a little sparkle. I paired the rugby polo with a sequin skirt, and the mix of casual and glam is honestly so good. To keep it grounded, I went with a simple pair of black booties and carried a mini silver bag for just the right amount of shine.

Skirt (similar) || Booties (similar) || Bag (similar)
This look can go so many places. Wear it to a holiday party, a girls’ night, a cute dinner date, or honestly anytime you just want to leave a little sparkle wherever you go. The reason it works is all in the balance. The rugby polo tones down the sequins so the outfit feels cool instead of over-the-top, and the booties keep everything chic and easy to wear. It’s festive without trying too hard and fun without feeling costume-y.
5. Black Trousers
Look five is giving classic with a little kick. I took a tailored pair of black wide-leg trousers and styled them with studded kitten heels to add just a touch of attitude without doing too much. I finished the look with a mini structured top-handle bag to keep everything polished.

Trousers (similar) || Heels (similar) || Bag (similar)
This is the perfect way to have a little fun with a classic work piece. You can wear this to a business-casual workplace, a coffee meeting, a daytime event, or even a cute dinner where you want to look put together but not overly dressed. The mix works because the rugby polo keeps it relaxed and approachable, while the trousers and heels bring in that clean, elevated feel. It’s timeless, comfortable, and still gives just enough flair to show you have style.
6. Track Pants
Look six is that chic-meets-tomboy vibe I live for. I grabbed a pair of wide-leg track pants and layered the rugby polo over my closet staple blue and white menswear button-down. The peek of the collar and cuffs instantly makes the outfit feel more styled without adding any effort. I slipped on the same black booties from the sequin skirt look, threw on the navy blue baseball cap, and carried the same silver mini bag to tie everything together.

Pants || Striped Shirt (similar) || Booties (similar) || Baseball cap || Bag (similar)
This look works because it blends two worlds so well. You get that sporty, tomboy energy from the track pants and cap, but the layers and booties add a chic, polished touch. It’s playful, it’s comfortable, and it feels like something you’d see on a cool girl running around the city. It’s another reminder that reusing pieces and mixing vibes can create the best outfits.
7. Denim Skirt
Look seven is giving just the right amount of drama. I paired the rugby polo with a midi denim skirt to keep the base simple and classic, then added a little razzle dazzle with a pair of thigh-high snakeskin boots. It’s an easy way to mix prints without it feeling loud or overwhelming. For the bag, I grabbed my mini Gucci chain-link monogram because she always adds that soft luxe touch.

Skirt (similar) || Boots (similar) || Bag
This look works because the denim skirt keeps everything grounded while the snakeskin boots bring the fun. The rugby polo balances it out so the outfit still feels wearable for real life. It’s chic, a little bold, and perfect for the days you want to show personality without doing too much.
8. Jeans
Look eight is all about classic cool with a little edge. I paired the rugby polo with a classic pair of jeans—the same ones I wear with pretty much everything—because you really can’t go wrong with a good denim base. I added a highly recommended leather jacket to bring in that instant “I tried but not too hard” energy. For shoes, I went with the same studded kitten heels from the trouser look, and finished it with the same oversized furry bag for a playful touch.

Jeans (similar) || Leather Jacket (similar) || Heels (similar) || Bag
This look works because it hits that perfect balance between laid-back and polished. The rugby polo keeps it approachable, the leather jacket adds attitude, and the heels and bag bring in personality. It’s effortless, versatile, and the kind of outfit you can wear for a casual dinner, a night out, or just running around town and still feel pulled together.
9. Long Khaki Shorts
Look nine is giving all the cozy fall vibes. I brought back a piece we talked about a few articles ago, a long pair of khaki shorts, and layered the rugby polo over a striped button-down for that relaxed, styled energy. I added the same navy blue baseball cap and tucked an oversized brown shiny shoulder bag in as a clutch to keep it playful. To finish it off, I threw on a cool pair of Jeffrey Campbell Visionary boots for that extra edge.

Shorts (similar) || Button Down (similar) || Hat || Bag (similar) || Booties
This look works because it’s a perfect mix of casual and bold. The rugby polo keeps the outfit grounded, the layering adds interest, and the boots bring personality without overdoing it. It’s versatile, stylish, and just the right amount of effort for fall days when you want to feel comfortable but still look like you know what you’re doing.
