Some of the BEST grits and salmon croquettes I’ve ever had can be found at Post and Beam Los Angeles, California… we’re talking top 5. The flavor and experience at this establishment is not only mind blowing, it’s consistent.

I went and conquered and I’m here to give you the run down on this black owned full service dining experience. Keep reading, we’re gonna eat a little brunch today.
What People Are Saying About Post and Beam
Sunday brunch is a thing. You know, bottomless mimosas, Instagram worthy photos, and conversations to catch up on your weekday events with friends. Being out of town low-key elevates the need for brunching.
It was my last morning in LA and I had two things to check off my list 1. Eat BOMB brunch. 2. Support a black owned business doing so. What I’ve discovered is that Tiktok is the perfect tour guide when traveling. You can look up practically anything of entertainment in any city to find what you’re looking for. I looked up “Black Owned Restaurants in Los Angeles” and up came Post & Beam restaurant.
Tiktok is one thing. However, I’m old.. and checking Google is the way for me to get a true determination of what a place is rated. From the raving reviews about the vibe and the photos of the food sold me.
The overall google rating is 4.3 out of 500+ reviews. The masses state how wonderful this place is. From the looks of it, Post and Beam Los Angeles was the key to a true treat of what Los Angeles truly has to offer as far as upscale soul food cuisine. In fact, when we arrived a repeating customer stated “oh, you’re in for a treat”. I just love confirmation.
Inside Post and Beam Los Angeles
Post & Beam is located at 3767 Santa Rosalia Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90008. This modern designed establishment is nestled in the corner behind the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza parking garage. Walking in, there is a small host station surrounded by black books and memorabilia.

The playlist tracks of early 90s and 2000s music filtered the air. I still have Brandy’s “I wanna be down” playing in my head. We did not have a reservation. However, there was open seating at the bar.
We were immediately greeted by our waiter with kindness and suggestions of what a first timer should try. She highly recommended the Oxtail Hash and Salmon Croquettes. Bottomless mimosas were high on the suggestion list as well. The need for sweet, savory, and crunchy was at an all time high. Literally. Hey, in Los Angeles being high is a norm. I wanted to try it all.
What I Ordered and My Experience
Pineapple and cranberry juice mimosas
Catfish nuggets
Pecan pie french toast, cinnamon cream, bourbon caramel
Smoked salmon croquettes
Grits
The bottomless mimosas came with an individual wine bottle, and a vial of juice. We got tipsy… fast. Nothing to talk about here. However, the food. Whew. The salmon croquettes were seasoned to perfection and fried just right. This mixed with the cheesy yellow grits, simply phenomenal. The grits alone were robust with flavor and it turns out they are prepared with shrimp butter. Hello flavor!
The pecan pie french toast was a beautiful melody in my mouth. In fact, the prepping station was directly in front of our seats. The chef making the french toast watched me as my eyes rolled in the back of my head as my fat self divulged in this crispy soft sweet bliss of an entree. You can tell he takes pride in making that damn french toast. And after I had my little orgasm he looked for my approval. All I could do was throw my thumbs up.

The catfish nuggets were superb. Fried correctly and the flavor was just as good as the other items. I’m NOT a catfish fan, but their version has the power to change that.
It’s safe to say Post and Beam Los Angeles gets a 10/10 from me.
In fact, I had such a great experience I went back to dine during a solo trip to Los Angeles. Should you be visiting LA soon theres a huge list of things to do during a short stay on that post.
Things You Need To Know Before Visiting Post and Beam Los Angeles
