Cowford Chophouse continues to prove it’s self as one of Jacksonville’s most elite fine dining experiences. From the ambiance, to the service, this has been and continues to be a city gem. Let’s not forget about the rooftop. It’s ‘the place’ you host birthday dinners, special date nights, and the Sex in The City vibe girl’s night out. If Cowford had a ranking in the fashion world.. she would be considered an It Girl for sure.

I can assure you because I elected this as my go-to when my best friend asked where she could take me for an intimate dinner to celebrate my pre-birthday. I called it the last supper for my chapter of 37 and I couldn’t have chosen a better spot locally. What I dined on long with my honest opinion, hopefully giving you some options to try should you visit Downtown Jacksonville’s top steakhouse. Keep reading.
Cowford Chophouse Is An Oldie But Still True
I’ve been to Cowford Chophouse more than a few times, and every time has been for a different purpose. Wether it was just because, or a birthday celebration. The one thing the remains consistent is the service and the quality of the food that’s prepared. Here’s what I had my most recent visit and my honest opinion of it.
- The Jaguar – bacardi superior white rum, myers’s dark rum, lime juice, pineapple juice, simple syrup, passion fruit syrup.
This drink was a basic cocktail, it was just okay. I normally have red wine when indulging in steak. I probably should’ve stuck with that.
- Cowford Chopped Salad – local greens, cucumber, red onion, avocado, tomato, hard-boiled egg, aged cheddar, buttermilk ranch dressing
Cowford’s version of a garden salad. It was a great starter to a meal. This dish is huge, it can easily be shared.

- Roasted Brussel Sprout – with crispy bacon
I love Brussel sprouts so my opinion may be bias. But these are delicious. A wholesome brussel with bacon, nothing more nothing less.
- A-5 Satsuma Wagyu – chef’s seasonal selection
This is a showcased premium cut of beef. It really doesn’t get better than Wagyu. Priced at $28.00 an ounce, with a 4 ounce minimum. Today’s chef selection was hosted with fingerling potatoes, mushroom and drizzled with a Asian mustard sauce. I had mine prepared medium plus. I literally melted like butter in my mouth. This is in the ranks with the best steak i’ve ever eaten.
- Crème Brulee – vanilla bean, seasonal fruit
One of the best brulees i’ve had, topped with seasonal strawberries and blueberries another wholesome dish.
