The concept of a pop-up dinners have been slowly infiltrating Jax’s foodie scene and Brew Five Points had long jumped in by creating a series called After Hours Friday. A series of an after hours pop-up dinner experience with food created by Chef Kalin Anderson owner of Feedtheville.

I went to my first event and not only was a mentally mind blown… my tastebuds were mind f&*$%D. You’ve got to keep reading this one..
‘How Do You Find This Stuff!?’
I’m sure you’re reading thinking, how does this girl find this stuff? Before we begin, if you live in Jacksonville, Florida and have an instagram account you should totally be following @Cr8Jax by Tony Mailagic. Tony is a phenomenal photographer in the city if Jax, I know this because he is the one responsible for taking my first photos for this very blog.
Anyway, he is one of the many plugs around town with a trustworthy opinion of cool things to do around town. Every week he drops a list of upcoming events. His concept is, only the boring get bored. His insight has partially taken me on a magical ride around this city which brings us to today’s topic. A after hours dinner / pop-up dinner featuring food from FeedTheVille by Chef Kalin Anderson. Whew…
After Hours Friday, What Is It?
Cr8 Jax dropped their weekly list and was certain this was the place to be as far as food is concerned on a Friday night. After Hours Friday is a series of pop-up dinners that occurs at Brew Five Points in collaboration with Chef Kalin Anderson owner of #FeedTheVille.

Brew Five Points is one of the coolest coffee shops and bakeries I’ve ever seen. It’s located at 1024 Park St In Jacksonville Florida. I’ve never stepped foot in this establishment, so I didn’t know what to expect. But I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of detail gone into making this a hip spot.
They close early in the day like 4:30 and decided to transform the space into a diner experience only serving premium street food. After my experience I totally understand why Chef Kalin is the man for the job. They have been running the series every Friday in July, and I caught the last one for the month. It was titled Pt. 8 After Hours @ Brew.
What To Expect When Visiting Brew Five Points After Hours Dinner
The event is held from 8:00 – 11:30 OR until they sell out. I want to emphasize on the sell out part, it’s real and you will find out why shortly. Something told me to arrive as close to 8:00pm as possible. By 8:15 there was a line. I will say I waited about 25 mins. If you’re impatient, this is not the foodie experience for you.
You will have to wait.

Once we got inside we placed our order at the counter, and here you could also order from a list of wines and natural iced teas. You’re given a number card and you have a limited choice of seating either at a table or the bar top. We lucked up and secured a small bench table chair near the back.
We waited equally long about 25 mins for our food to arrive, but I assure you it was all worth it. Keep reading to find out what I mean.
The Food
The food. That’s it, that’s the end of the article. I had heard extremely good things about Chef Kalin’s aka Napswhippin culinary skills. So I knew I was in for a treat, but I sincerely wasn’t prepared for what I experienced. I’m going to use the word experience a lot because this entire event was just that.
The menu consists of 4-5 handheld sandwiches or as chef calls them ‘handfuls’ ranging from a po-boy to crunch wraps. Every week the menu varies with handfuls selection. If you are concerned with calories, vegan, health conscious… this experience is not for you lol.
Ain’t shit heathy about this food, okay!? Anyway, this week the following was offered.
Mac and Cheese Burrito – chimi + chipotle hot honey, blackened garlic charred chicken green chile white cheddar mac.
Crunch Wrap – Jerked honey braised beef. Rooted potatoes and garlic crema, beef jus & Cheeto dust
Shrimp Po Boy – crispy marinated shrimp, lemon pepper honey mustard, crabmeat remoulade + tomato salad
Turkey Smash Burger – Marinated patty sauce and chips
Cheese Cake – top with apple pie apples
As soon as I saw the menu I knew I was going for the Shrimp Po Boy. Each choice was about $16.00.
How Was It!?
The handful was huge, crammed with shrimp and ingredients. There was no shortages in the ratio of food to bread to flavor. This baby was full. The presentation was a 10/10. My mouth began to water at first look. I cut into it (I’m a lady lol) and it was love… lust… anger at first bite. Yes, anger because it made me angry that someone knew how to put tastes together to blow my mind this way lol. This handful was seasoned to perfection, the shrimp were perfectly cooked and crisp. Phenomenal. It’s one of those bites that instantly give you the ugly face and want to get up and ask WHO DID THIS!!?
My date went with the Mac and Cheese Burrito, he literally did the same thing. The flavors of both dishes literally slap you in the face.
To complete the meal we went with a slice of the apple pie cheese cake. Hands down innovative and delicious.
For a drink I went with a Plum Ginger iced tea. It’s a natural form tea and lightly sweetened. It was honestly nothing to write about compared to the food but it worked.
Wrapping Things Up: Brew Five Point After Hours Dinner
This was not only an amazing culinary experience, culturally I was in awe. The people of Jax have been demanding for things to do that are out of the ordinary and Brew Five Points gets it. The concept and the overall execution of this dining experience is exactly the type of things I crave as a creative.
Be sure to follow Brew’s instagram and Feedtheville to keep up with the next pop-up. When you go, let me know what you think!
If you’re looking for another spot with innovative food in town check out Silkies Chicken and Champagne Bar. In fact, Chef Kalin is a protege of Chef Kenny Gilbert. So the ability to perverse flavors is there.
