Finding interesting things to do in Houston Texas is not hard to do. In fact, it has become one of my favorite cities to visit in the united states. It’s enriched with culture, good eats, some of the best shopping, and tons of things to check off on your list when it comes to entertainment. Long story short there’s always something to do in Houston. No matter what you’re niche is.
Wether you’re a local looking for something new, or new to the city altogether. Sit back, relax, and read this post. I’ve got 8 interesting things to do in Houston coming your way. Keep reading.
1. Art & Vibez
This black owned and woman owned (+points) art studio is painting with a twist, with a twist. Its an art studio in which you paint canvas but also a lounge. Bring your drank, listen to a groovy playlist all while being instructed on painting a work of art. I want to personally note the aesthetic of the place; colorful and a dope photo prop for picture perfect moments.
2. Thirteen by James Harden
This is also a black owned establishment owned by none other than former Rockets superstar James Harden. First, this spot is LUXE and PLUSH. The decor is absolutely phenomenal. Black marble floors, velvet chairs. You can definitely put on your “good clothes” for this spot. I had the opportunity to visit for Sunday brunch. A few dishes to note.
Deep fried strawberry cheesecake french toast waffles – It’s a lot going on in a good way. Absolutely to die for.
The Thirteen Cajun Seafood Boil and Grits: think low country boil on steroids. This savory dish was filled and packed with flavor. They even throw some jalapeno cheddar cornbread on that thing. Whew!
The bottomless mimosas were a plus. The strawberry/kiwi blend… AMAZING. Tipsy on demand. Okay?
Another thing to note was the live band and singer that was on display. Covering songs from Mary J and Macy Gray the whole spot was a vibe!
Please note reservations aren’t required but they might as well be. Save yourself a long wait and plan ahead. This place books fast and it’s no wonder why.
3. Seismique
(Pronounced size-meek)This is a selfie museum… galore. From the lights, oversized props, and displays, this 40,000+ square foot of space place truly tickled my fancy. If you’re traveling with kids they will absolutely enjoy it as well.
4. Graffiti Park
A known go to in Houston, it is an outdoor gallery of murals and the dopest graffiti art. Catch pics in front of Kobe Bryant, Angel Wings, the legendary Pimp C and so much more. It’s one of the you have to be there to understand situations.
Tip: When taking a picture in front of the angel wings, look down there is a guide in white spray paint showing exactly where to stand to get the picture perfect.
5. Cru Lounge
Into hookah? Say less. Great ambience and vibe, let’s just say they love the color green :). Ditto.
Not too clubby but just enough. Full bar with signature drinks. A wide selection of hookah, upgrades, food, and cbd. The DJ I experienced that night? Superb. I would highly recommend making a reservation or you will be standing. Luckily, I did reserve a table so this wasn’t the case for me. I did not indulge in the food personally (we had just left dinner) so I can’t speak for it. But the hookah and drinks, YES.
I will note this place is a little on the pricier side. You’ve been warned.
On another note, Cru Hemp Lounge, owned by Atlanta-based entrepreneur Dennis McKinley, has now become the largest black-owned nightlife chain and largest hookah lounge chain in the United States.
6. Kemah Boardwalk
This isn’t necessarily in the Houston city limit. However, if you’re up to it, a 45 minute journey will land you at this known go to in this region of Texas. Kemah boardwalk has it all. Completely kid-friendly there is a mini amusement park with a crazy coaster, shopping, and dining. This is truly a place to spend time for a day, on a date, or family, literally whereas you can snag an all day pass for under $30.00. Totally worth it.
7. KUU
Pronounced KOO. I’m telling you, if you’re into sushi. THIS is the place. They have something for every level of Japanese cuisine preference. You want raw sushi? Got it. Want a fully cooked whole meal, you’re good. Are you a so so sushi eater who likes their sushi cooked, you’re covered too. Everything was appealing as far as presentation even the desert. They truly take pride in their establishment and it shows.
A personal fave, the Miso Seabass. Simply delish.
Bonus: If you go on a Saturday night prepare to be serenaded by a live violinist. Beautiful.
8. Cockrell Butterfly Center
Located in the Houston Museum of Natural Science, this lush glass house contains hundreds (maybe even thousands) of different species of butterflies. Let’s not forget about the waterfall (heart eyes). One thing about me, i’m going to sniff out things dealing with nature any time I visit a city. Expect to be fully educated on the life of butterflies ending with a tour in their gorgeous home. Unfortunately there is no touching of the precious insects. However, you may marvel as long as you like.
