For some people thrifting is more than just a trend, it’s a way of life. To the OGS, it’s a means to spend less on great fashion, furniture, and houseware just because it makes sense financially. For others, its about coming up on unique finds for little of nothing. Then of course, there are some gals who simply want to do their part to save the planet by eliminating fast fashion. Me? I fall into the fifth category… a little of all three. For some reason I got away from it, and as of late I’ve found myself doing it again for all of the aforementioned reasons.
Over time thrifting has become a trend, either way it’s one of the most sustainable ways to shop. Whatever one’s reason for doing it, it’s here to stay. In fact, the thrifting way is growing by the day. The question is, who’s got the best location(s) around Jax? Surprisingly Jacksonville is not asleep on having some good shops to pop through. There are tons of AMAZING spots just waiting to be explored. A lot of them you probably didn’t realize existed.
With that being said I will be writing a plethora of articles exploring Jax’s best thrift and vintage shops to get the tea for you while shopping. We are going to get to the nitty gritty detail… you know, cleanliness, deals, and of course the best bounty. If you are a babe looking for these type of goldmines, sit back and allow me to do the leg work. I will be spending my time diving into these thrifting streets to let you know what the deal is.

Anyway, clock in with me for my part-time shift as a thrifter. Today’s stop? City Thrift, one of Jax’s most beloved stores. It holds a Google rating of 4.5! Is it worth the hype? Keep reading to find out.
Calling All City Girls (and boys) To City Thrift
City Thrift is easily one of the more popular choices when it comes to what’s trending in the world of Jax thrifting. Located in the Paxon Shopping Center at 728 Edgewood Ave N, Jacksonville, FL 32254. Again, it’s current Google rating is 4.5 with 601 reviews. This store is truly a gem of the city and has been around since 1979. This is a medium sized location, putting you in the mind of a small grocery story. Clothing, furniture, and houseware can be found here. The question is, is it worthy of the 4.5 review? That is in the next article.
The Trill Spill
City Thrift has made it their business to make thrifting comparable to shopping at your average discount store. It’s clean(er) than the average thrift store and extremely organized. They offer a women’s, men’s a children department when it comes to clothing. Every section is visibly labeled and broken down by size. Everything is tagged so you know exactly the size and how much an item costs. If you’re a thriftier you know this type of organization is greatly appreciated.
Where City Thrift falls short is the men’s department. Like most thrift stores the women’s clothing highly outranks the men. But this was a substantial difference. I know this, because I always go to the gentlemen’s section before I start my overall journey and it was pretty lackluster. It’s not a total loss, but this may not be your goldmine fellas. Don’t worry I’ll keep looking 🙂
Pricing and Discounts
The pricing was a little higher than I would like to see while thrifting, but it’s tolerable. The average known brand (j.crew, adidas) quality piece ranged from the $10.00 – $12.00 mark. However, these same items would be 10 times higher online or in a luxury department store. The perk of City Thrift is that they offer a weekly discount based — up to 50% off — and their Senior Tuesdays give those 55 and up an extra 30% reduction, while Wednesdays offer the same deal for active-duty military or veterans.
The savings are there, you’ve got to learn their system.
Wrap It Up: Thrifting at City Thrift.
I went in when a list of specific items I fancied adding to my wardrobe. Surprisingly, a lot of them were checked off. I took advantage of the orange (30% off) and green tag (50%) discounts and racked up on a nice bounty of finds including pleated skirts, denim, and dope vintage baseball caps. I will eventually do a haul and try-on and will be sure to update this post.
Overall I can see why City Thrift holds it’s title as one of the best in town. Clean, functional, and great finds. You’ve just got to find your way over to see. OH! While doing some research I’ve learned they are set to open a new Orange Park Location at a whopping 35,380 square feet! I can’t wait to swing by to see what that is looking like.
