It Turns Out It’s Okay To Wear White After Labor Day. Here’s 5 Pieces You Can Easily Add To Your Wardrobe.
The History Of ‘No White After Labor Day’ And How It Came To Be.
Isn’t it funny how we follow rules and traditions and have no idea as to why. My Grandmother was a classy woman who left me many gems of life. Most of them were given when I was a young girl. I vividly remember her saying “you can’t wear white after labor day” I never put much thought into it, aside from okay it’s a fashion “no no” but I recently felt compelled to know why it’s a no no.
“You Can’t Wear White After Labor Day.” But Why?
Turns out this ‘rule’ or practice like most stemmed from a typical social and class reason. After doing quick research about “The History Behind No White After Labor Day” I came across and article on Better Homes and Gardens which sums it all up to this.
Long story short it was a social status that started in the 1800s. The deal was, if you couldn’t afford to take a vacation after the summer months you shouldn’t wear white. Also, if you were in the working class it was impossible to wear white because your line of work would make your clothes dirty.
So if you like myself grew up with this notion in your head. Throw it out the window and do you boo.
Now That We Have Established No White After Labor Day Is BS… Let’s Shop.
There are a few pieces I am swooning over when it comes to the white category. Some are statement pieces for making a fashionable impression, others are everyday pieces that can be worn over and over. You too can easily add these to your wardrobe to strut your stuff like the baddie you are.
1. A High Quality T-Shirt
I am nominating this t-shirt from Target’s A New Day Brand as one of the most comfortable, yet quality, and highly affordable t-shirts money can buy.

I love having a white t-shirt around because it’s an easy fix to the “not having something to wear” dilemma we all suffer from time to time. for me this happens weekly. This tee looks good with jeans, shorts, skirts, sweats, and even leggings. If you’re looking for an all around versatile shirt. This is the one.

2. A Statement Blazer
Yes, a classic blazer in the wardrobe is a must. However, I’ve scouted out a statement blazer to add to the mix. I found this beautifully constructed unique piece from the ladies at Souk + Sepia called the “Shire Blazer”. Can we say OMG. It’s gorgeous.

Its super edgy yet able to be incorporated into everyday looks. I can’t wait to pair this with jeans and booties. Even a dress. This is for sure a conversation starter. Get into it.
A Few disclaimers if you’re considering this blazer. It runs very small. I am willing to say 2 sizes small. I am a true medium and based on the description I went up a size to a large. Although it fits, I can’t close it. A large is as big as this piece gets. So I will make it work.

3. A Wrap/Blazer Dress
A great piece to have on hand is a wrap style blazer dress. I found this beautiful dress online at Zara. I love this piece because it can be worn in the summer months with heels. But sturdy enough to endure colder days with thigh high boots. So, this turns out to be a year round selection.

My particular dress is sold out. However, I found one that is similar.

4. A Sheer Top
Try adding a sexy and edgy top to your rotation. I found this interesting top on Akira. The sleeves are puffy and the garment zips in the back. I already have a look involving thigh high boots and faux leather shorts in mind. A sheer top is another piece you can have in your closet when you want something “different” to wear.

I love shopping on Akira because their items are not only fashion forward but high quality. If you have never heard of this website, it’s time you be enlightened.

5. Knee High Boots
The best part about fall and winter months. Boots! Try a pair of white boots this season. I found these at Zara. These are faux leather but the quality is amazing. They pair nicely with jeans, shorts, skirts, and dresses. Yes, black boots are cool… but switch it up sometime.
