Tired of phoning it in at the gym? Change scenery and take a walk at the Jacksonville Riverwalk. Located in the Riverside neighborhood, this is a 1.25-mi. paved promenade along the St. Johns River. It includes art, benches & city & sunset views. This spot instantly became one of my favorite spots to walk in the city. Here’s 3 reasons it could win you over too, keep reading.

This spot has been here forever. However, over the last few years the city has made an effort to draw more cyclers and walkers to the area. I personally prefer the North Bank I generally park under the fuller warren bridge where the Riverside Arts Market is held to begin my trek. Overall from that point to the end and back is about a 2.5 mile walk depending on how fast you move it about an 40-60 mins work out sesh. The park is SAFE in fact, security was hired and maintains the grounds ensuring you and your family are safe during your visit. Aside from the fact you’re able to be active here are 3 other reasons you should go.
Gorgeous Views
It’s not called the Jacksonville Riverwalk for nothing, lol. Your backdrop are up close and personal views of the St Johns River. You also get senes of manicure grass, and nature. Even if you aren’t there to walk you can come and relax on one of the many benches they have in place for tourists. As you make your way you pass smiling face of people out walking dogs, on bikes, or just relaxing.

My favorite part is the gated overpass, here you get views of the railroad, art on the ground, and an oversized cow mural under the bridge. Another thing to note on the said overpass, locals have started to put personal locks just like the famous bridge in Paris. Aside from all of this you are getting fresh air and good ole fashion vitamin D. Exactly what the doctor would order.
All Terrain Territory
Of course you have flat land to walk on, but what I love about this trail are the various inclines to take your workout to the next level. Just after the above mentioned overpass which is an incline in itself, there’s a ramp that circles around and descends. You not just getting a plain Jane walk at the Jacksonville Riverwalk, you get little baby hills, curves, and ramps too.

Outdoor Gym
Just after the above mentioned ramp you can find Corkscrew Park, a free outdoor park. Here you have access to workout equipment and amenities including free weights, yoga mats, jump ropes and medicine balls. A sculpture combines art and exercise by including pull-up bars and exercise rings. So not only can you walk you can get a full workout in. And it’s all for free.

The Jacksonville Riverwalk is open 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. For a bonus visit on Saturdays during the Riverside Arts Market.
