Today’s topic is preserving DIY floral arrangements, the life hack you didn’t know you needed. Within the last 3 years or so I’ve become obsessed with bringing home a fresh bouquet of flowers and putting them in a pretty vase to showcase in my home.
Trust me, I’ve tried a few methods to keep them lasting as long as Godly possible and this method is not only easy, it’s maintained some of my arrangements for up to 2 weeks! The best part? You more than likely have the items needed in your kitchen and laundry room. Keep reading the recipe is just ahead.

I Dream Of Peonies
{Goes off track}
Today’s arrangement subject that I will be using is the Peony.
I was bumping around Trader Joe’s one afternoon and came across Peonies priced at 9.99 a bunch. The beauty of them captivated me, BUT I didn’t get them because I had just set up a DIY floral arrangement of my go to white hydrangeas. Of course I used the same method I’m going to teach you today, so I had to wait a little over 2 weeks to restore my fresh bouquet. We don’t butcher a perfectly good flower arrangement after all, lol. I had been dreaming about peonies ever since. You can only imagine my delight to find them still in store at the same price when I was on the hunt for them.
Enough about Peonies, here’s how I preserve my florals.
Making DIY Floral Arrangements That Last, A Life Hack You Didn’t Know You Needed.
After searching Social Media for preservation hacks I found this and have stuck with it ever since. Keep in mind this hack works on any florals so don’t feel pressured to get the exact flowers I’m using in this article. Here are the easy recipe/steps.
- Add water to your vase. I recommend filling it up 3/4 of the way. Remember your fresh flowers will be absorbing the water and solution we will be making, so you want to make sure you have enough that lasts for the duration of the diy floral arrangement
- Add one table spoon of sugar
- Add one cap of bleach
- Stir until the solution is clear
- Cut your flowers the desired length to accompany your vase and at an angle.
- Arrange your flowers to your desired aesthetic
Enjoy
For a boosted preservation should the florals include a pack of plant food I mix it in with this solution. Aside from the florals, the type of vase you choose sets the tone for how your DIY arrangement will look in your space. I found my vase at IKEA years ago. However, I found a few others you can use from Amazon that are gorgeous as well.
