Tucked away on the Eastside of Jacksonville at the corner of 8th at and Phoenix Avenue is a small hole in the wall mom and pop shop style spot call Phoenix Ave Eatery.

No, it doesn’t have the aesthetic of all the newer spots popping up all over town. However, they offer great customer service and breakfast that is good enough to slap someone (please not your mother). A quick review of the restaurant, what to expect, and what I ate.
Inside Phoenix Ave Eatery
Phoenix Ave Eatery is located at 1811 Phoenix Ave Jacksonville, Fl 32206. It’s a short order style restaurant where you order at the counter and wait. I will be honest and say it’s not a ‘pretty’. Here you will not find cute tables in decor. However, you will find a fully operating kitchen that serves its community with great customer service. The line is never short which shows this place is goodt. Funny how the most suspect spots always have the best food.
Phoenix Ave Eatery specializes in breakfast. Here you can get your typical grits, eggs, fried fish, and breakfast sandwiches. And let’s not forget, the fried chicken wings. But what drew me in to wanting to give this spot a whirl was the specialty waffles. This is where they take a griddle waffle and infuse and top it with a cereal of choice. The choices are fruity pebbles, cinnamon toast crunch, and cookies and cream. They also have a red velvet style.
What I Ate
I went with the Fruit Pebbles waffle, turkey bacon, and scrambled eggs. The waffle is in fact infused with the cereal and topped with a sweet icing like syrup and sprinkled with bits of the cereal. Presentation wise, beautiful.
I also sampled the fried fish a grits. A large pice of whiting laid on top of grits made to your liking. Again the presentation was great. It too came with eggs and toast. I did scrambled cheese eggs for this meal.
Each plate cost about 14.00 and it took 20-25 minutes to be prepared, once ready your food is shown to you and bagged up. From here, you can dine in or take your goods togo.
The waffles were scrumptious, they genuinely could have been eaten alone, but the syrup made them next level. They were soft and just mouth watering. The eggs were fried and lightly seasoned to perfection and the turkey bacon was cooked perfect. (9.5/10)
The fish a grist were fried with a lemon pepper tasting season and the batter was PERFEC. I’m not a huge whiting fish lover and this one had bones so that was the downfall for me. However, the cheesy eggs and grits were delicious. (8/10)
